... used to be a  Unix software development company, but I've since seen the light and moved to Mexico.

This site is run by yours truly, Patrick Stirling

After living in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years (10 each in San Francisco and Oakland, California, USA), we bought a house in the town of Ajijic, about 30 miles south of Guadalajara (Mexico's 2nd largest city with a population of about 5 million) in 2003 and moved down here to live permanently in September 2004

I've divided this index page into geographical sections; I'm originally from England and my wife Janet is from Vermont, USA so those are the next two after Mexico (where we are now!). The final section is for trips we've taken elsewhere.

A note about the construction of this website. I've kept it simple (no active content so no worries about nasty things being downloaded when you view it!), and the pages are all about 800 pixels wide so will fit on most screens. Following the KISS theory I've done this with tables - all content is in 800 pixel fixed-width tables.

Our beautiful home in Ajijic is on the market!
We want to move on to the next adventure...

We bought the house in Ajijic knowing we'd need to do some work on it, but the scale of renovation turned out much larger than either of us was expecting. Our house in Ajijic shows how the house looked when we bought it in July 2003.We built a pool and casita (guesthouse) almost immediately, the plan being to move into the casita while we renovated the main house. The pool/casita construction started at Thanksgiving 2004 and finished in early June 2005. We moved into the casita in July 2005 and renovated the main house. We moved back into the main house in late April 2006 and the renovation was fully complete by the end of May.

For other interesting items, check out the Life In Ajijic link below, photos since we moved here; also we found a coffee tree on our lot, and have made coffee (it's great!).
